CorrConsult has developed the FPS sampling and test kit to enable owners, supervisors, and/or installers of sprinkler systems to collect and ship samples of sprinkler pipe and water to CorrConsult for subsequent laboratory analysis. Pinhole leaks, blockages, and rust colored sprinkler water are all possible manifestations of ongoing corrosion within a sprinkler system.When it is suspected that a sprinkler system may be affected by corrosion, pinhole leaks, and/or the biodeterioration effects of bacteria known to be associated with microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), the FPS sampling and test kit provides the user with the tools and instructions to obtain water and pipe samples in a scientifically sound and microbiologically sterile manner. CorrConsult also provides comprehensive, on-site condition assessment services for wet, dry, and pre-action fire protection systems (FPS). The procedure includes on-site internal inspection of suspect sprinkler system piping as well as off-site laboratory evaluation and analysis of pipe and water samples collected during the inspection procedure. The information gathered is used to identify the existing or potential corrosion/failure mechanism and the extent of the corrosion damage to existing fire protection systems. In addition, sites are identified where pipe samples are collected for subsequent analysis for corrosion damage, biodeterioration due to microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), characterization of the corrosion mechanism, and assessment of remaining pipe wall thickness.
